Yahoo Inc Statistics Project Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Yahoo Inc - Statistics Project Example It is important to observe trends in the time series data in order to assess which model to apply when undertaking a forecast of data. In this regard, graphical presentations are usually recommended. Thus in this study, graphs are used to show the trends in the data gathered as has been recommended by other scholars for observing time series data (Anderson, et al., 2010). One of the objectives of this paper was to assess the measures of central tendency and measures of dispersion (spread). In this study, we use mean scores and median values to assess central tendency and standard deviation, minimum and maximum values to assess spread in the time series data. Therefore, this has been done for sales, costs, and profits of Yahoo Inc. for the period under review. These results are presented in table formats in Part II of this paper. There are many methods that can be used to forecast time series data such as the one in this study (Table 1). In our assessment of the task at hand and the l imitation of resources, we conducted the forecast using regression analysis technique which we found to be appropriate for this study. There are a number of statistical software available for conducting forecasts of time series data (Evans, 2003). These include but are not limited to Excel, SPSS, Stata, Eviews, R, and Minitab. Again, due to resource limitations and our assessment of the task at hand, we use the Excel software to conduct the forecasting exercise in the present study.

The Impact Of Healthcare Reforms Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

The Impact Of Healthcare Reforms - Essay Example However, Avraham, Dafny, and Schanzenbach (2012) found a positive and significant impact of reforms aimed at improving healthcare quality in HMOs, which resulted in an increase in coverage among workers and reduction of tort related lawsuits. Precisely, reforms on the general set of ports between 1998 and 2006 reduced payable premiums of employer-sponsored self-insured health care programs by about 2.1%. While no significant reductions were found in fully insured plans under HMOs, caps on noneconomic damages and collateral source reforms had the greatest impact. Therefore, this suggests that American workers have benefited from the reforms by spending less on aggregate health costs/premiums as a percentage of personal income. Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS, 2010) noted that collaboration among health plans to share client details through regional and statewide information systems significantly helped to reduce time and office practice expenses. Mission Statement for Aetna International Aetna International is global healthcare provider with its head quarter in USA and continental offices in Europe, Asia, and Africa. EMBA 550 inital post week 4 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words - 1

EMBA 550 inital post week 4 - Essay Example Products are trauma (implants and instruments for surgical treatment of fracture), spine (treatment of degenerative instabilities, fractures, tumors and deformities for cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine), and CMF (craniomaxillofacial systems with complete array of implants and instruments for treatment of facial trauma, tumor resection and reconstruction, mandibular and maxillofacial skeleton) (Synthes, 2013). My company is St. Jude Medical, a medical device company. In choosing a second company to provide comparison, I selected another medical device supplier which, like St. Jude Medical, is among the 100 largest (based on revenues) firms in the industry, and which has approximately the same level of assets (SJM - $8.1 million, Synthes - $7.9 million) (Pharma.Live.com, 2012). The comparison is more relevant if it is between two firms engaged in the same scale of business. The customer experience is promised in their value propositions (Barnes, et al., 2009). Yes, the value proposition lies primarily with the types of products. The equipment and services of SJM address cardiac, neurological and chronic pain disorders, while that of Synthes addressed trauma, spine and CMF disorders. Secondarily, the value proposition also lies with the strategic vision. While both profess being guided by customers’ pain alleviation, SJM specifies its ‘focus’ is on ‘putting greater control in the hands of health professionals’ while Synthes specifies it is ‘Patient-driven, surgeon-focused, innovative, with attention to quality and integrity.’ The products Synthes innovates are concentrated on surgical wares, while that of SJM is more general, creating products for the health professionals to use in the course of treatments. The qualitative elements are correctly evaluated, because they pertain to the specific functions of precision instruments (products). Both value propositions

Strategy Formulation for the Long-Term Care Facility Research Paper

Strategy Formulation for the Long-Term Care Facility - Research Paper Example The formulation of strategies needs to be implemented in the association. This is to guarantee that they are executed effectively. The implementation guides the manner in which the organization creates its discussions, actions, and decisions. In the U.S., there have been long-term care facilities that have come up in the past. They are there presently to serve the citizens who might be too old to cater for themselves. Their presence has enabled old people to get cared for even in their old age (Williamson, 2009). This paper will look at one such organization, and its strategic planning in the long term of caring for the old. Veterans Affairs (VA) is a United States government funded project that is present to cater for the needs of veterans. The project was started to ensure that post-war heroes got the attention they needed after serving their time in the military. Its main function is to provide for institutional and non-institutional based care for all veterans. Institutional base d care is the kind that involves taking care of them while in nursing institutions. In the non-institutional based care, veterans are provided for and taken care of in their own homes (United States General Accounting Office, 2003). In a brief overview of their strategic formulation, it is pertinent to note that any organization needs a strong, if not perfect, budget plan to get proper funding. In the VA Organization, the cover they receive from the government needs to be outlined, and accredited. This is in order for them to realise and attain their targets through this funding (Williamson, 2009). The formulation of strategies needs to be realistic in order for them to get the response they require. In the event that the initial cover does not help realise their targets, they can ask for supplementary capital from the committee in charge of their affairs. Their strategic formulation is based on workload performance. Workload projections are what help the organization prepare a suff icient enough budget for its operations. The labour that is used to cater for the needs of veterans needs to be catered for in terms of financial security. The labour they provide enables them to get attention from the government in order to perform their functions effectively. The amount of care provided is crucial in the formulation of these strategies (United States General Accounting Office, 2003). In light of all this, it is vital to note that the growth of the VA is based on labour provided by the care-givers. One strategic formulation they consider is the proactive response they require to their immediate surroundings. The evaluation that is carried out in the organization on the grounds of maintaining the health of veterans is crucial in the running of the organization (Bascetta, 2003). It is keen on spearheading the maintenance, and awareness of good mental, physical, and spiritual health of veterans. The maintenance of healthy surroundings is a way of ensuring that they re ach some of their goals. A goal based on creating a sustainable environment for all veterans present in nursing homes, or private homes. Long-term care services provided by the VA Organization are instructed by management, and the government. This ensures that every veteran gets the required care by the care givers employed by the VA Organization. The workload strategies that the organization has for its operations are very significant. These may help the organization in a number of ways. In one of those ways, the organization can cater to everyone at the VA society. Some of the alternatives it has in place are also aimed at ensuring the growth of the organizati

Asthma Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Asthma - Assignment Example They include; inhaled corticosteroids, leukotriene modifiers, long-acting beta agonists (LABAs), theophylline and a combination of inhalers that contain both corticosteroid and a LABA. Inhaled corticosteroids include: Fluticasone, Budesonide, Mometasone, Beclomethasone, Ciclesonide (Naff and Clay 2010). Inhaled corticosteroids have a few side effects which include; one may experience a thrush when taking higher doses and on rare occasions hoarseness may occur. One should regularly rinse the mouth, gargle after using the asthma inhaler and use a spacer device with metered dose inhaler. The intended treatment outcomes include; reduced frequency of asthma attacks, reduced use of beta-agonist bronchodilators, and improvement of lung functions, reduction of emergency hospital visits and hospitalizations (Krauss 2003). A peak flow meter gauges how air moves out of one’s lungs. Measuring one’s peak flow is an important part in managing asthmatic symptoms as well as an asthma attack. The reading from this device helps the patient to detect changes which may be signs of worsening asthma. Thus one is alerted of the tightening of airways days or hours before the onset of asthma symptoms or attacks (Krauss

Designing an Observational Situation Research Paper

Designing an Observational Situation - Research Paper Example The teacher should show them the importance of the skill, describe it using a T-chart, establish practice circumstances in which students can utilize the skill and make certain that student get a response on their utilization of skill, and reflect on the way to advance the skill. The teacher should make sure the students keep trying to undertake the skill before it grows to be automatic. Structuring cooperative learning should follow this, so that the students can utilize the classroom and social skills, and the teacher can monitor their undertaking. The teacher should intervene in co-operative learning groups to make sure students are utilizing the skill correctly and see them doing so. The student should then complete questionnaires or checklists to self-identify their mastering of the set skills. In using everyday class activities to establish that students are demonstrating skills and understanding, teachers should have observation checklists or notes; recording things they see a s well as the sort of learning demonstrated. The next step should entail assigning students to set improvement targets for enhancing their competency followed by assessment of student knowledge of learnt skill. The final step should entail reporting on the level of students’ skill to the concerned parties, such as parents and students. B. Issues Anticipated in Conducting the Observation The teacher will generally focus on isolated skills and behaviors without concern for the subsequent and preceding actions, which might offer the meaning and context of the behaviors. Methodological issues can also interfere with the drawing of proper conclusions (Adelman & Walker, 2005). The observation effects can occur, as the students are aware that their behaviors are being observed. The presence of the teacher can change the student’s behavior resulting in reactive effects. The other issue relates to the actual amount of time needed to acquire valid observation duration and the co rrect number of observations needed to acquire valid and reliable results. There is the issue of the appropriate level of the analysis (student, the class, or students in the class) the teacher should use when analyzing observation data. The student may also fail to demonstrate all the required learning outcomes (Koth et al., 2009). The demonstration of a learning outcome may not be demonstrated because the attention of the teacher may be elsewhere and thus fail to notice it. The student can also derive unintentional signal prompts. Students do not perform similar tasks under similar conditions and thus some of the teacher’s judgment of student demonstrations of learning outcomes can be undependable. The teacher’s judgments are also prone and subjective to inconsistencies (Koth et al., 2009). Too much is left to the teacher’s discretion. Subjective judgment may allow the teacher to stereotype students in terms of other characteristics and performances. It may al so allow the possibility of unconscious and conscious bias for or against groups or individuals. C. How to Address the Challenges The teacher can address the learning outcome issue by deliberately prompting learning outcomes. The assessment should be incidental and planned. The teacher should also ensure that the assessment is all-inclusive. Over time, the teacher has numerous opportunities of observing the demonstration o

LLB contract law Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words

LLB contract law - Essay Example In other words, a consideration is the benefit to the promissory. Although contracts are only binding on the parties when they are supported by a consideration, the English law allows a person to desert his/her promise to another without recourse. Nevertheless, there have been many incidences where persons end up claiming back their rights after deserting such rights by making promises to the other parties to a contract. Therefore, to help the promisee in such situations, the doctrine of promissory estoppels was developed to prevent people from claiming back the rights they had waived by promising the party to the contract that they are no longer willing to receive consideration either partially or in full in return for making such a move2. In plain, the doctrine of promissory estoppels requires that the promisor must be true and faithful in making a promise. Accordingly, the doctrine bars the promisor from changing the promise that he or she had made to the promisee. Therefore, from the definition, it can be stated that the promissory estoppel acts as an alternative to consideration. This is because, instead of having to provide a consideration for the contract to be enforceable, an aggrieved party can argue promissory estoppel as a defence for a promise made by the promisee in a contract. This is because the doctrine of promissory estoppel prevents the person who has made a promise to reclaim the gratuitous rights that they had given back. In this regard, promissory estoppel doctrine offers an effective defence to an aggrieved promisor in the event that the promisee breaches their promise by reclaiming initial terms of the agreement. This is because the doctrine makes a promise binding to both the parties to the promise without the need of consideration3. Nonetheless, some legal experts have argued that, as much as equitable promissory estoppel can offer effective defence in a contract, the doctrine cannot offer the same defence
